Midwest Collie Club is a local breed specialty club active in Southeast Michigan.  Our mission is promoting fine Collies.  MWCC was founded in 1930 by knowledgeable Detroit-area Collie owners, breeders, exhibitors, mentors and other fanciers, as well as AKC-licensed judges and professional handlers.  Soon afterward, the club was recognized by the American Kennel Club.  Today, MWCC members demonstrate their commitment to the Collie breed by working in the present and planning for the future, while remaining dedicated to the purposes and traditions initiated by our club founders.

Midwest Collie Club's two annual specialty shows are known for consistently attracting fine Collies of the highest quality.   Pictured in 2010 is BOB winner GCh. Blu Ridge Let It Ride. Judge Les Canavan

COLLIES DO GOOD WORK

Photo by Northern Lights Photography Studio

There are many opportunities for Collies to make contributions to families and communities.  For example, after passing required tests and certifications including AKC Canine Good Citizen testing, Collies may be eligible to make helpful therapy-dog or service-dog visits to organizations and institutions serving a wide range of people - from the very young to the elderly.  Pictured l-r are "Shep", Air Lord Shepherd of Sundell CGC, CSD, Cancer Detection Dog and "Coffee", Overland Lord Ice Coffee of Sundell, SD in TR, owned by MWCC member Carol Sundell.  Shep is a certified service dog and young Coffee now is working on his certifications.

MWCC promotes fine Collies based on the Collie Club of America breed standard, as approved by the AKC.  Members advance our club mission through events, education and example.  MWCC conformation and performance events consistently attract nationally-prominent judging panels and solid entries of fine Collies.  Other MWCC activities include related educational, charitable and social events complementary to our club mission.

Membership

MWCC membership is a great way to learn
more about fine Collies and also make new
friends with like-minded Collie fanciers.
Opportunities are available for members to help present and enjoy the club's two
annual AKC specialty shows, an annual
AKC-sanctioned puppy match, various
performance events such as, obedience
trials, as well as educational, charitable
and social activities.  Our annual specialties
regularly attract top breeders, owners, and
handlers exhibiting some of the finest
Collies in the country.  For information

Collies Do It All

U-AGI, Ch. Afterhours Keltic Knight, NA, NAJ, CGC, TDI
"Donovan" is bred by Afterhours Collies.
Pictured with his pal. Owned & handled by Kristine Felske.

Our beautiful, intelligent Collies do it all in conformation and performance competition, and in service and therapy dog work.  Their most important role, however, is as beloved family pets in homes across America.

Collies In Art

Collies have long been a favorite subject of artists.  MWCC member Mary Kummer is a nationally prominent artist who has created a large collection of Collie artwork.  Her creations include the lovely Rough Collie head study at the top of this webpage; her memorable image for the Collie Club of America logo; as well as her charming illustrations in the holiday book, The Christmas Collie, by Ted Paul.

"Kilts" (Lisara's Silver Scott, RN, BN) admired the flowers during a break from competition at the 2012 Collie Club of America National Specialty Show held at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center.  Kilts is owned by MWCC member Judy Kirkeby.

Ability's Gentle Breeze

Many MWCC members and their Collies enjoy participating in conformation and performance events.  Pictured competing in agility is Ability's Gentle Breeze ("Breeze"), NA, CGC,TDI, owned by MWCC member Carol Bartley.

Ricky Sheets with Mistymoor Campaign Promise
